POSITION SUMMARY:
The person selected will be responsible for implementing and supervising childcare programs, materials, activities, and procedures, while ensuring a safe, caring, and nurturing environment for the students enrolled in LCPRT Before/After School Program. Site Directors are responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting an example for children, parents, and co-workers by reflecting the LCPRT core values. Work is performed under the general direction of the Child Care Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES:
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee the Before After School Program, staff and students and be a direct contact, while making decisions that align with our policies and procedures.
- Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, or co-workers.
- Initiate and maintain positive relationships with school staff including principal, secretaries, custodial staff, and teachers of key importance to the after-school programs
- Schedules staff; sets up, coordinates, and attends field trips, including arranging transportation in partnership with the Child Care Coordinator, accepting payments, setting times, etc.; schedules special events coinciding with holidays; schedules visitors to come onsite and speak to children regarding various topics
- Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences, and emergency information on each child

Provide clear expectations to all staff and assign tasks as needed
Schedules training for staff, holds regular staff meetings, deals with issues that may arise, reviews bi-weekly timesheets - Inventories snacks, travels to store to pick up snacks when needed
- Comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff. Ensure all staff are aware of all Emergency Procedures and have them sign off.
- Maintain all supplies, equipment, and materials; inform the Child Care Coordinator when new/additional supplies are needed
- Attend a minimum of 20 hours of yearly training and any additional training as requested.
- Coordinates shared space with Louisa County Public Schools
- Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the desire to positively impact youth
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Minimum of 21 years old with a HS Diploma or GED, prefer some college education.
- At least 2 years’ experience working with school age children in a childcare/school.
- At least 1 year in a supervisory/lead role.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Must have the ability to demonstrate and/or show competency in the following areas:
- Knowledge of childcare practices and techniques; through knowledge of children’s developmental and social growth expectations and needs
- Supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with students
- The ability to execute sound judgement, exhibit professionalism, and to communicate effectively with parents, staff, students, and school personnel
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory results on a drug screen, criminal history background, central registry check, and sex offender registry check are required
Obtain the following certifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
- Daily Health Observations or Health Screening certification within 90 days of employment
- Medication Administration Training (MAT) within 6 months
- Recognition of Child Abuse & Neglect training within 60 days of employment
- Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
The Before/After School Director will present a competent and positive image of Louisa County Parks, Recreation & Tourism through the professional and safe coordination of all Child Care programming, quantified by completion of the key areas of responsibility and continuous improvement of the systems.
