Deputy Sheriff - School Resource Officer - Part-Time
The primary purpose of a Deputy Sheriff - School Resource Officer (SRO) is to initiate more positive contact between police and youth. Positive contact creates a higher level of trust and helps insure more effective channels of communication. The SRO in this position must be committed to being involved with children in Louisa County public schools or community based programs.
The SRO in this position is also responsible for working with the school principal, teachers, and staff to assist in the development of plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations. They are also responsible for providing presentations to groups, especially in a classroom setting. The incumbent is required to engage in the pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators, if observed or when assistance is requested from dispatch or other deputy sheriffs. Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and regulations. This work involves an element of personal danger and frequent contact with the public during routine and emergency situations. Applications accepted until position is filled.
