Lifegaurd (Part-time)
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with LCPRT policies and procedures. Builds positive relationships with patrons and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills and creatively finds ways to connect them to one another and the community.
a. Current certification in the following:
- Lifeguarding: American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- Other certifications required by local or state laws.
b. Pre-employment testing of lifeguarding knowledge and skills
c. Ability to present a professional, positive, and helpful attitude always when interacting with County employees, co-workers, and the public. Exhibits an understanding of functions as a “team player”. Requires strong interpersonal skills.
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
- Enforces rules consistently and fairly.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with LCPRT policies, procedures, and completes related reports as required.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the LCPRT and/or the state health department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and reports any hazards to the supervisor.
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining the pool area and locker rooms while not on stand.
- Identifies and celebrates the successes of aquatic program participants and fellow staff members.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
- Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check.
- Must consent to drug testing consistent with Louisa County’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
