Summary

Louisburg College is a private, residential, two-year with enrollment ranging from 400-500 students.

The Director will provide case management for students to address academic needs and enhance student academic success. The position is in charge of the case management for the academic standing process and also coordinates academic advising. This position provides direct oversight to all academic support services including the Academic Success Center, the Writing Center, the Mathematics Lab, Science Help Sessions, Tutoring Services, and Career and Transfer Services.

This position leads the Learning Partners professional staff in providing individual coaching and learning strategy training for college students with disabilities. This position is responsible for promoting the program through workshops, committees, recruiting efforts, and conferences. In addition, the director is responsible for leading the Learning Partners staff to develop methods and strategies that support student growth as well as maintain data to inform future decisions.

This position also coordinates accessibility services and proactively engages the campus community to create usable, equitable, and inclusive learning environments that ensure the college's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This position provides training, technical assistance, and consulting services to faculty, staff, administration, and students, including universal design, reasonable accommodations, as well as information regarding local, state, and federal legislation. This position facilitates the ADA grievance process and serves on institutional committees as appropriate to implement campus accessibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


General Academic Support Services

  • Provide case management services to students on academic alert, academic probation, and other academically at-risk classifications.

  • Responsible for training academic advisors and coordinating the academic advising process.

  • Work with the VP of Academic Life and Dean of Faculty to identify underperforming students to develop and implement strategies that can lead to academic success.

  • Supervise College Success workshops for students to develop effective study and learning strategies.

  • Works closely with the Registrar to assign students to advisors according to students' accessibility needs, academic majors, and preferred field of study.

  • Coordinates with the VP of Academic Life and Dean of Faculty, Executive Directors, Athletic Director, and athletic coaches concerning assigned faculty advisors and student advising needs.

  • Assess students' academic needs and monitor progress. Responsible for the collection and analysis of data to evaluate progress on student academic achievement.

  • Assist the Registrar with grant-related program development, strategic student enrollment management, and other related instructional management issues.

  • Works with the Vice President of Academic Life and Dean of Faculty and Registrar to conduct data analysis and complete reports.

  • Train and supervise professional tutors and oversee the training and supervision of peer tutors and coaches.

  • Submit attendance and tutoring reports to the VP of Academic Life and Dean of Faculty.

  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Accessibility services and learning partners
  • Supervises and mentors Learning Partners (LP) Specialists on academic coaching and learning strategy training techniques as well as other duties related to the understanding and teaching of Learning Partners students, including academic advising and content-based instructions.

  • Supervises and mentors the Administrative Assistant on proctoring procedures for LP students, assistive technologies, and other duties related to Accessibility Services and Learning Partners.

  • Mentors Learning Partners students and their parents in order to resolve individual situations and to facilitate success at Louisburg College and transitioning students with disabilities to college.

  • Provides information about the scope, parameters, and expectations of Learning Partners program membership to students and parents through individual meetings, college and program open houses, and orientation events.

  • Facilitates the understanding of students with learning differences, disabilities, and accommodations through workshops, reports, and other means to various entities of Louisburg College, including the Board of Trustees through the Learning Partners Advisory Committee, the President, Vice-Presidents, Division Chairs, Committees, as well as other departments and individuals as needed.

  • Provides information and training to various high school transition coordinators and counselors, Vocational Rehabilitation representatives, and other outside organizations.

  • Manages program brochures and other recruiting materials and engages in recruitment and outreach to various constituents. Travel required.

  • Evaluates psychoeducational and medical reports along with student IEP and 504 plans to determine program assistance.

  • Maintains membership in AHEAD, NCAHEAD, LDA and other organizations and engages in professional development to stay current on best practices related to students with disabilities.

  • Oversees and awards scholarships set aside for LP students.

  • Supervises Interpreters and other support personnel who provide appropriate accommodations.

  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures that promote inclusion, universal design, and adherence to the ADA in programs and facilities.

  • Communicates with students and parents (current and prospective) and treatment providers, etc. to get the necessary documentation to complete the disclosure process.

  • Meets with students to counsel, advise, refer to an appropriate campus resource, and/or develop a plan of action and/or reasonable accommodations with students who have disabilities by conducting interview and reviewing documentation.

  • Maintains student records relating to communications with students, recommended courses of action of accommodations, and documentation provided by the student.

  • Supports the Assistant in placement testing during orientation events.

  • Is knowledgeable of and remains current on assistive technology to support the purchasing, upkeep, recommendation of, and use of assistive technology. Manages Taft Building issues.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Disability Studies, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Special Education, or a related area required.

  • Minimum of at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in disability services, with at least two (2) years' experience in higher education.

  • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory and budgetary experience.

  • Experience in the design and development of instructional materials and media, interactive educational experiences, and learning assessments.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in a courteous and helpful manner.

  • Experience in building productive relationships with individuals and groups to support the achievement of program and college-wide goals.

  • Understanding and commitment of emerging practices related to student engagement and academic success of first-generation, students of color, low-income, and other vulnerable student populations.

  • Deep knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Ace Amendments of 2008 (ADAA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and their application to the college setting.

  • Experience reading and understanding psychological reports and IEP/504 Plans.

  • Deep knowledge of coaching techniques and academic strategies in supporting students with learning differences.

  • Excellent customer service attitude with willingness to help students, faculty, and staff.

  • Familiarity with FERPA and applicable laws and regulations regarding student records, confidentiality, and student rights and responsibilities.
