Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One Year Of Experience In a Correctional, Behavioral, Or Penal Institution With Responsibility For The Security, Custody, Rehabilitation, Or Classification Of Offenders, Or In Law Enforcement Or Security Plus One Of The Following
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.

Examples of Work
Serves as an assistant to the Corrections Lieutenant and serves as a shift supervisor in the absence of the Corrections Lieutenant.
Assists law enforcement or investigative personnel from other police jurisdictions.
Supervises offenders assigned to specialized areas of the cell block, in the field, on trips, and in the hospital.
Serves as on-the-job training (OJT) instructor to train new officers during the probationary period.
Rotates Through The Following Work Assignments
Serves as a control center officer, coordinating and monitoring inmate movements, institutional counts, emergency responses, and all radio and telephone communications.
Serves as a perimeter security officer, including tower guard (generally armed and authorized to shoot to wound in certain situations.)
Serves as mailroom officer by searching for contraband and maintaining records of inmate property received through the mail.
Supervises offenders and visitors in an authorized visiting area.
Serves as a sally port or gate officer by inspecting vehicles and scrutinizing visitors entering and exiting the institution grounds.
Serves as an armory officer by securing and accounting for disbursements and maintaining all institutional firearms.
Serves as a medical security officer (EMT) providing security in a hospital or an infirmary area and performing emergency medical functions as required. May also staff the ambulance.
Serves as a foreman of an offender labor crew, both skilled and unskilled, including culinary duty.
Serves as a security supervisor in a specialized work area, i.e., maintenance, medical, and warehouse.
Serves as a security officer in an offender canteen area.
Conducts shakedowns for contraband material either individually or as part of a specialized team.
Supervises offenders in recreation activities.
Provides security for offenders engaged in treatment activities.
Serves as a member of a chase team charged with apprehending escapees from the institution or as a member of a tactical team charged with carrying out special security assignments.
