About this position:
The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer in the activities of the Project Engineer's office, including supervision and performance of construction inspection duties. This position is in District 62 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Project Engineer (Engineer 6). While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:
• Valid driver's license
• Operate a state owned vehicle, computer, surveying equipment, etc.
• Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat
• May be required to lift items up to 50 pounds
• Submit to random drug testing as required

Engineer Intern 1 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Engineer Intern 2 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $28.29/ hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 3 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
Engineer 4 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 5 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus Two years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Differs from Engineer Intern Applicant by the presence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Differs from Engineer Intern 2 by the absence of independence when completing basic assignments.

Assists in economic justification studies for proposed engineering facilities and performs computations and analyses of cost-benefit engineering considerations.
Applies basic engineering formulas to routine calculations.
Assists in the instruction and training of water and sewerage superintendents and operators in the safe and efficient operation of their plants and in the performance of such routine tests as are necessary for proper control of the treatment process.
Assists in the training of operators of swimming pools, etc. and occasionally aids in the classroom and field training of sanitarians.
Collects samples for chemical and/or bacteriological laboratory analysis, using special techniques as required.
