About this position:
This position assists professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of bridge plan detailing and plan preparation work in the Bridge Design Section. Engineering technician positions are in a Career Progression Group (CPG) capped at Engineering Technician 4. The required minimum number of years of experience, completion of required structured training courses as well as satisfactory work performance are required for incumbents to progress through the CPG. This position is eligible for $2.00/hour premium pay for hours actually worked.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

This Master Job Description (MJD) covers sub-professional engineering work performed in the Bridge Design Section and serves as a broad overview of the duties and responsibilities for all Bridge Design Engineering Technician positions in the career progression group. The job duties described below outline the work/level of responsibility and complexity of the cap of the CPG, Engineering Technician 4.
65% Bridge Detailing, Plan Preparation, and Data Collection: Creates bridge details, miscellaneous project drawings, and project reports using Computer Aided Design (CAD) as well as other related design (InRoads, ProjectWise, DGN Conform, etc) and scanning software. Develops and checks project plan details in accordance with the Bridge Design Section’s CAD and detailing standards. Receives general supervision from engineers and higher level technicians as needed for unusual or difficult assignments. Assists engineers in gathering data (as-built plans, bridge fabrication drawings, bridge inspection reports, microfilm plans and correspondence, other miscellaneous project data) for assigned projects.
20% Computations and Plan Assembly: Performs calculations related to roadway geometry, quantity tabulations, details, and construction cost estimates. Applies the Bridge Design and Evaluation Manual (BDEM), the Louisiana Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges (LSSRB), and the Engineering Directives and Standards Manual (EDSM) for the development of project documents. Assists in representing the Section in project meetings and project site visits. Assembles complete pre-construction plan sets for preliminary and final plans, develops project data, and prepares project correspondence. Assists with the communication and coordination with outside personnel to assemble project plans as well as other assignments.
10% Standard Details and Standard Plans: Performs CAD drafting and detail checking for standard details and standard plans developed and maintained by the Bridge Design Section.
5% Perform additional duties as needed to ensure the efficient operation of the Bridge Design Section, including but limited to Emergency/Disaster support duties.
