Northwestern State University's Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officers.

These positions are non-exempt under the provisions of the FLSA and may work rotating 12-hour shifts. These positions are subject to overtime, working weekends, holidays, and shift work.

Special Entrance Rate

Police Officer 1 - $18.58/hour

Police Officer 2 - $19.88/hour

As part of a Career Progression Group, the vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab located at the top of the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.

The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.

Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rules or policy. Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Necessary Special Requirements

No experience or training is required.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols, enforcing parking and traffic regulations, rendering emergency services, investigating minor crimes, and making arrests when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services.

General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
