Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing processes to facilitate efficient medical record management and reimbursement. Must be willing to train, for two weeks, at our Bossier City LA location.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of coded data for billing purposes, adhering to all regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve discrepancies in medical records.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and best practices in medical billing and collections.
- Perform regular audits of coded data to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Assist in the training of new staff on coding practices and procedures as needed.
- Support the medical office team in managing patient records, ensuring confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10) and familiarity with DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) classifications.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and healthcare billing processes.
- Experience with medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate data entry and problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals regarding coding queries or clarifications.
