Decontamination Technician

JOB SUMMARY:  Maintain the endoscopy equipment in the center in an optimum condition

JOB DUTIES:

1.      Clean and disinfect endoscopes and accessory items in a safe and effective manner

2.      Maintains the equipment in optimum working order

3.      Prepares accessories for sterilization in an appropriate manner

4.      Prepares records for utilization

5.      Becomes familiar with all center policies and procedures

6.      Updates knowledge needed to perform job duties by attending center in-services and other continuing education

7.      Maintains adequate supplies and equipment for the efficient operation of the center

8.      Attends and contributes to staff meetings and committee meetings

9.      Participates in the quality process of the center

10.  Performs other duties as needed for the patient, staff, or the center

PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE:

1.      OSHA regulations

2.      Clean and sterile technique

3.      Structure and function of endoscopic equipment

SKILLS:

1.  Manual dexterity to set up, test, and operate endoscopic equipment and accessories

ABILITIES:

1.      Be able to communicate effectively by verbal and written means

EDUCATION:

1.      Orientation to the workings of the endoscopic equipment

SENSORY DEMANDS:

1.    Be able to hear and see the timing devices used in the cleaning and disinfecting room
