Media/Public Relations

Assist with the creation and implementation of the Lottery’s media relations plan to receive positive statewide and industry media coverage, including articles on treasury transfers, game winner totals, and unclaimed prizes.  Serve as a back-up spokesperson for taped or live news media interviews.  Ensure media fact sheets and related public relations literature is updated as required. Assist in the coordination of news conferences and crisis communications plan as deemed necessary. 

 

Provide Director of Communications with ongoing analysis of potential public relations issues by monitoring news coverage, incoming telephone calls, emails and letters from the general public, industry representatives, and ticket purchasers in order to develop sound corporate responses and messages.

 

Recommend and utilize research tools to monitor and measure public relations efforts and public perceptions. Develop MarComm benchmarking dashboard with key performance indicators. Assist in the development of public relations messages and public position statements when requested. Assist in the development and coordination of public relations campaigns for the Lottery’s core PR messages, including activities surrounding Problem Gambling Awareness Month and related Lottery consumer protection issues.

 

Social Community Management/Digital Media Production

Monitor online media, social media, blog posts and comments and make recommendations to Director of Communications for planning online media public relations strategies/responses. Coordinate the Lottery’s traditional media presence with online strategies. Assist in integrating traditional and new media communications tools into ongoing public relations and marketing programs, including mobile marketing, broadcast email, etc.

 

Manage the Lottery brand and voice on social channels including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. by planning and creating engaging written and visual content, responding to questions or feedback, and measuring effectiveness of both organic content and targeted promoted content (ads) that meet platform and campaign objectives.

 

With Director of Communications, design engaging promotions to build community size while maintaining high levels of engagement.

 

News and Publicity

 

Research; collect and analyze information; interview retailers, players and staff; write and distribute regular news releases on a variety of topics, including winner awareness, product announcements, player issues and financial topics for statewide and industry media. Prepare replies to inquiries from news media and industry sources.

 

Other writing assignments include collecting research and writing retailer-focused stories for bi-monthly Exchange newsletter, taking photographs to support stories, and producing point-of-sale and promotional copy as needed. 

 

Manage the update of information on the Lottery's corporate website, specifically as it relates to financial and corporate news of public interest. Ensure that FAQ’s are kept updated and accurate. Post related news releases.

 

Assist department staff as needed with other web content management responsibilities, including adding winners, photos, how-to-play copy for games. Gather photos, charts and other graphics from corporate and regional offices to help illustrate stories posted on websites. 

 

Internal Communications

Attend board meetings and report results to employees on corporate intranet, Team Lottery. Contribute content and information for the Lottery’s corporate intranet, Team Lottery, including company news, human resource-related topics, employee information, etc. Develop material and produce employee-focused stories on Team Lottery.  Assist in production of quarterly MarComm Dashboard for board and employee distribution.

 

Marketing and Administrative Support

Work with Director of Communications, Vice President of Marketing, Regional Sales Managers, retailers, and others in meeting communications needs.   Attend executive meetings as needed.  Provide support for customer service functions of the Lottery.

 

Regional Support

Help meet Regional Sales Managers’ special requests, such as writing regional news releases, preparing special presentations and assisting in promotions. Other duties as assigned or requested by supervisor.

55,000
