Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean of Students serves as LSU’s principal student advocate and provides strategic leadership for programs, services, events, and experiences that enhance the LSU student experience. The position provides leadership and support to departments whose mission-critical work is student engagement including Campus Life, Greek Life, The William A. Brookshire Military and Veterans Student Center, Student Advocacy and Accountability, and Student Government. The Dean of Students serves as a key member of the Central Office Student Affairs leadership team that includes the AVP for Student Health and Wellbeing, the Student Affairs Chief of Staff, and the Vice President for Student Affairs. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE: Serves as LSU’s principal student advocate. Provides leadership and support for Campus Life, Greek Life, The William A. Serves on university-wide committees including the LSU behavioral intervention/crisis response team. Serves as a key member of the Student Affairs leadership team. Bridge student success and engagement Yes, getting students to attend programs and events is important because physical presence and being in community is one part of helping students build a sense of belonging at LSU. However, in order to make a real impact on the mission-critical work of LSU (i.e., retention and graduation), department leaders need to know what initiatives move the needle toward these outcomes. The Dean of Students will help design an approach to data analytics in their portfolio area that merges engagement and student success pieces to better showcase the impact of LSU’s unique engagement approaches. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education. 10 years of progressive experience in higher education administration, including at least 7 years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience in crisis response/management. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education. 5 years higher education leadership experience at or above the Director level. Demonstrated group facilitation, curriculum/learning design experience. Experience working with student conduct including organizational misconduct. Experience navigating the unique dynamics of a large, traditional fraternity/sorority community. Experience working on cross-institutional teams to solve complex challenges.
