Position Summary
The data manager will be responsible for tracking patients, recording information, and facilitating patient-related research within the LSUHSC Department of Pediatrics. The data manager will track cancer patients, patients having undergone stem cell transplantation, patients with sickle cell disease, and patients with bleeding disorders. Other conditions, such as vascular anomalies, may be included based on the interest of individual faculty members. The data manager will record information extracted from the Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for all patients who are currently clinically active and for patients who are no longer clinically active but who have been seen in the past ten years. The data manager will record demographic data, information regarding diagnosis, treatment regimens, response to treatments, and current health status. Data will be stored in a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)-compliant REDCap database.
The data manager will work closely with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and nurse navigators to ensure that the data are complete and accurate. Physicians may also work with the data manager to customize databases based on the nature of the disease that is being tracked.
For a limited number of patients, the data manager will obtain written informed consent from patients and / or their parents to participate in clinical research. The data manager will work with the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) at Children's Hospital to ensure that consent forms have been properly completed according to the requirements of the clinical trial and recorded in the CTO.
With appropriate IRB review and approval, the data manager will facilitate patient-related research within the Center.
