As a Dental Assistant, you will be a key member of our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team, providing essential support to our Oral surgeons, residents, interns, and rotating dental students. Your responsibilities will include assisting with patient care, taking patient medical histories, maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, and helping to ensure the smooth operation of our full-scope comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial surgery practice. Job Responsibilities
- Provide patient care and comfort by preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, and assisting the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon during office-based procedures, in which dental extractions, soft tissue and hard tissue biopsies, dental implants, bone grafting, sinus lifts that might take place under local anesthesia or Mild, moderate, or deep sedation.
- Assure that medical questionnaires are electronically filled, and vital signs are charted.
- Educate patients on maintaining good oral health
- Provide assistance to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team during various surgical procedures.
- Take digital X-rays and upload them into the electronic medical record.
- Prepare materials and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Assist in keeping surgical records organized, accurate, and up to date.
- Pre-operative vitals
- Make sure surgical consents are updated and signed.
- Coordinate with the surgeon regarding IV sedation medications and ensure they are prepared.
- Advise patients and their families regarding post-operative instructions and provide post-operative supplies.
- Check on patients on post-operative day #1 via phone.
- Ensure that all sedation medication is accurately documented and accounted for.
- Record and maintain patient information
- Follow up on patients' messages via EPIC - Electronic medical records / or phone.
- Help to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff
- Maintain surgical instruments and supplies
- Assist in laboratory procedures
- Order, receive, and stock supplies and work with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery office manager to make sure office supplies are replenished in a timely fashion.
- Help seating patients, turn over rooms, sterilize instruments.
