Digital Communications Specialist
Communications University Laboratory School
The LSU Laboratory School requires a Communications Specialist to ensure timely and accurate information is shared with our stakeholders. This role coordinates and organizes various events, captures organic activities throughout the day and shares them through our social media platforms, maintains the content on our website, and works with the Office of Communications and the University Relations Office to communicate with local media ensuring our school is highlighted throughout the year. The incumbent should be proactive in shaping the conversations of our School's community.
30% Social Media Strategist: Responsible for managing all inquiries (Creates and executes the social media strategy through content planning and scheduling; utilizes all digital platforms to grow the school's online presence, uses digital communications platforms to effectively promote the school and it's students, faculty, staff, and alumni; grows exposure, following, and engagement on all platforms through both organic and paid marketing approaches; stays current on trends; tests new strategies and platforms; and uses social media analytics to assess social media engagement strategies and generate quarterly reports for the college's communications team.
30% Website Content: Procures, maintains, and updates content on the college website; creates and implements updates to improve the usability, performance, and appearance of the website; assists departments with their website development and manages issues as they arise; maintains website content; and incorporates search engine optimization and analytics.
20% Event Planning and Media Relations: Responsible to oversee and organize events that will make an impact to a target audience. Will ensure events are successful and cost-effective, paying attention to budget and time constraints. Understands marketing and promotion techniques and develops fresh ideas while leaving nothing to chance; Plans events from start to finish and develops a cross-channel Communications plan to promote events through the School’s website, newsletter, emails, and social media. Works Collaboratively with the Office of Communications and University Relations and adheres to the standards set therein.
10% Video Content: Generates video ideas and coordinates and produces video material to share on the website and social media channels that feature the college’s faculty, staff, students, and facilities; works in conjunction with the college’s Communications Specialist on editorial, design, and budgetary responsibility for all video projects.
5% Digital Marketing: Generates and/or coordinates digital media materials and advertisements to promote school initiatives, works in conjunction with college's Communications Specialist on editorial, design, and budgetary responsibility for all digital marketing projects.
5% Other: Perform other duties/special projects as assigned by Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and one year of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with three years of work experience which includes two years of experience with communications or marketing in a university setting
Additional Information:
Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer/laptop/iPad; ability to sit and/or stand in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) at a time. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through the use of phone, e-mail, and direct contact with individuals. Ability to work some evenings or weekends for special events and activities; some travel may be required.
