Pennington Biomedical Research Center
, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Associate in the
Sleep and Cardiometabolic Health Laboratory.
The Research Associate will contribute to research studies investigating the intricate relationship between sleep, circadian rhythms, and cardiometabolic health. This position involves assisting with all aspects of research projects, from participant recruitment and data collection to data analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in clinical studies including sleep and cardiometabolic research, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of clinical sleep studies, including maintaining sleep laboratory supplies, conducting overnight polysomnography, coordinating sleep study scheduling, and ensuring the smooth execution of clinical protocols. Further responsibilities include initiating and distributing devices such as accelerometers, oximeters, ambulatory blood pressure monitors etc. and downloading data.
- Conduct in vitro and ex vivo experiments, employing a range of techniques such as cell culture, isolating monocytes from participant samples, tissue culture, Western blotting, RNA analysis, and confocal microscopy.
- Oversee laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and adherence to safety protocols. Manage research data, ensuring its integrity, security, and accessibility for analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biological science, psychology, neuroscience, or a related field.
- Some research exposure/experience, which could include undergraduate research projects, volunteer work in a lab, or internships.
- Familiarity with basic lab skills including cell culture, Western blot analysis, RNA analysis and confocal imaging.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to follow protocols and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in sleep, circadian rhythms, or cardiometabolic health is highly desirable.
- Experience with data analysis software and database management is a plus.
- Experience with human subjects research, particularly in a clinical setting. Experience with physiological data collection (e.g., EEG, ECG, actigraphy) or biological sample processing.
- Experience with sleep staging software or other physiological data analysis tools.
