What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Specialist position at Louisiana Tech University?

The position will involve working closely with University Faculty, Researchers, Staff, and Students as it relates to all areas of safety in laboratory, shop, and general safety. Emphasis is in the biological and Health fields, but includes chemical and hazardous waste policies and procedures. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding bio-safety, chemical safety, asbestos abatement, OSHA requirements and the ability to research and interpret laws and reporting requirements is required. The position will assist and represent the Director of Health and Environmental Safety and must be available after hours and on weekends.
The preferred candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or closely related field with at least 2 years of related safety employment in research or laboratory environments.
