What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Inspector I position at Louisville Metro Government?
Must be certified as an Electrical Inspector General in the State of Kentucky to be considered for this position.
Essential Functions:
Issues violation notices and prepares inspection reports
Discusses inspections and code interpretations with the public
Inspects electrical installations and residential and commercial structures year round to enforce compliance with electrical codes, regulations and ordinancesExamples of Work:
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Submits reports of inspections and investigations, and recommends corrective actions
Collects and properly documents evidence of violations.
Performs inspections to enforce electrical code and electrical permit regulations and ordinances
Inspects electrical sites to assure proper operation of equipment and installations, determines reasons for malfunction and performs tests utilizing amp meters and volt probes to determine compliance with standards
Issues warnings and violations to citizens and businesses and serves citations regarding violations of electrical and safety codes
Authorizes the utility company to begin or resume electrical service
Discusses inspections, investigations and code interpretations with the public, electricians, engineers, builders and business officials to resolve code violations and problems
Prepares reports of findings, and compiles evidence should legal action be taken
Testifies in court and at public hearings
Performs related workPhysical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Works at locations with limited or difficult access including uneven terrain
Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements
Sufficient vision is required to perform inspections
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or the equivalent or have held a State of Kentucky Journeyman or a Master Electricians License for a minimum of five years or currently holds a State of Kentucky Electrical Inspector's License
Other Minimums:
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must be on 24 hour call
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must be certified as an Electrical Inspector General in the State of Kentucky (815 KAR 35:015).
Equivalency:
OR Be a registered professional electrical engineer engaged in the profession for at least three (3) years.EOE
