What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard Senior position at Louisville Metro Government?
The purpose of this position is to monitor swimming pools safety and facilities operations.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Schedules, assigns and evaluates the lifeguard team.
• Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning lifeguard responsibilities and duties.
• Maintains standards of safety including identifying and correcting hazards.
• Maintains cleanliness of pools and facilities.
• Provides technical assistance and instruction in rescue and emergency procedures.
• Conducts in-service training.
• Performs first aid treatment to injured patrons and staff.
• Provides information to patrons regarding pool rules and safety regulations.
• Maintains facility opening and closing procedures, and ensures checklists are accurate and complete.
• Monitors activities in swimming areas to detect hazards and disturbances, to prevent accidents and to provide assistance.
• Cautions swimmers regarding inclement weather, unsafe areas or illegal conduct.
• Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning.
• Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of lifeguard or aquatics experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must be certified as a Lifeguard, First Aid, and Adult, Child and Infant CPR by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or YMCA
• Must submit to pre-employment and random drug screenings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
• Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
