Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to engage in community outreach and relationship building with at-risk individuals and multiple stakeholders.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Builds relationships with high-risk persons in the focus area and acquaintances.
  • Provides life coaching (by working to develop life plans) to address their individual risks and needs.
  • Engages in conflict mediation and resolution in circumstances in which violence is likely, including possible retaliation.
  • Provides education for modification of norms around identity and violence.
  • Helps facilitate positive alternatives to violence through case management.
  • Recruits and maintains a case management load of high-risk participants and works with them to reduce risks.
  • Makes necessary connections to services, support, and opportunities (i.e., job programs, GED, and drug treatment) that lead to safety and success.
  • Participates, as necessary, in organized responses to shootings.
  • Works with the community, other outreach programs, and local law enforcement to gain information that may be helpful in preventing additional violence.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Social Science, Public Health or related discipline.
  • Two (2) years of social work, psychology, counseling or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS
