Essential Functions:
Prepares legal documents
Researches legal precedent
Conducts investigations and collects on debtsExamples of Work:
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Composes and prepares routine correspondence, reports and other documents
Compiles, organizes and maintains database of legal and litigation cases
Prepares summaries of opinions and decisions
Conducts legal research and prepares titles, deeds, mortgages, liens, contracts, complaints, resolutions and other legal documents
Interviews clients to gather information
Inventories, stocks and maintains law library books, and recommends and purchases new books and materials
Accesses reference materials, queries records and files to display and to respond to inquiries for information
Corresponds with the taxpayer over the phone, in person and in writing
Evaluates taxpayer credit history to determine ability to pay delinquent taxes
Provides paralegal support to attorneys in the area of civil litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy
Locates and develops case relevant information
Performs initial case assessment
Provides detailed notation of taxpayer interviews in the tax system
Performs related workPhysical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Communicates with individuals in person and utilizes all types of communication media
Spends prolonged periods of time sitting
Operates office and computer equipment
Minimum Requirements:
Associate's degree
Legal Studies
Paralegal
Related field
Three years of paralegal or legal secretary experience
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which may include a Paralegal Certificate
Special Requirements:
Must adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements
KSAs:
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public
Ability to understand applicable legal proceedings for collection efforts
