What are the responsibilities and job description for the PRBM Inspector I position at Louisville Metro Government?
Essential Functions:
Inspects residential and commercial buildings construction and installations of new or replacement HVAC systems for compliance with state codes and local ordinances
Reviews residential and commercial building plans for compliance with building and mechanical codes, land development codes and local ordinances; and approves or disapproves permit issuance
Issues violation notices and Certificates of Occupancy and prepares inspection reports
Explains building and residential codes, mechanical, land development, and other applicable codes, and ordinances to the publicExamples of Work:
UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
Contacts and recommends connect or disconnect of service to utility company
Reviews architectural and engineering plans, blueprints and construction specifications of residential and commercial structures for compliance with building and mechanical code requirements, land development regulations and local ordinances
Conducts routine inspections of commercial and residential construction to enforce building and mechanical code requirements, land development regulations and local ordinances
Recommends demolition of vacant or damaged structures when compliance has not been achieved
Provides technical assistance and instruction to the public concerning policies, procedures, codes, regulations and permit and inspection requirements
Investigates and resolves complaints of violations of building and mechanical codes and local ordinances
Inspects heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, including ducts, vent pipes, and gas lines; enforce mechanical codes, regulations, and ordinances
Conducts routine inspections of building, fire suppression, fire detection, HVAC, fireplaces, moving, range hood, mechanical refrigeration, sign, and wrecking permits
Researches information, prepares correspondence and reports, maintains records and files and completes special projects
Performs related work
Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Sufficient vision is needed to review detailed plans and blueprints and to inspect buildings
Sufficient mobility is needed to conduct inspections at locations with limited or difficult access
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or the equivalent
Two years of experience in design, building technology, architecture, engineering, or a directly related construction position, such as a foreman or lead man
Other Minimums:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must be on 24 hour call
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must work a varied schedule
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted but must include two years of design, building technology, architecture, engineering, or a directly related construction position, such as a foreman or lead man
Special Requirements:
Must be certified as a One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector in the State of Kentucky or obtain within six months of employment (815 KAR 7:070)
Must be certified as a Building Inspector, Level I, in the State of Kentucky or obtain within 12 months of employment
Must be certified as a Building Inspector, Level II, in the State of Kentucky or obtain within 18 months of employmentEOE
