Summary Objective:
- The purpose of this position is to prepare, plan and schedule systems implementation and project plans including budget, timeline, status reports, application development, maintenance, modifications, data conversions, upgrades, test data, and test procedures.
- This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning software and hardware usage, evaluates training needs and prepares training materials.
Prepares, plans and schedules systems implementation and project plans including budget, timeline, status reports, application development, maintenance, modifications, data conversions, upgrades, test data, and test procedures.
Expands or modifies system to serve new purposes, functions, or to improve workflow.
Researches new computer technology, hardware, software, components and peripheral equipment, and evaluates its cost effectiveness, and feasibility.
Analyzes document processing procedures and paper flow, and identifies, develops and recommends technology, methods or computer applications to increase the efficiency of information processing.
Consults with staff to develop and design computer applications programs to produce reports, statistical analysis, or mathematical computations.
Conducts structured analysis, data modeling and information engineering to plan and design application systems.
Conducts training programs in Microsoft Office desk top products and other business productivity applications.
Assesses and researches applications, technology, and products, and evaluates its cost effectiveness, feasibility and possible use and purchase.
Prepares information and literature for distribution at training sessions, lectures and classes.
Defines system goals, prepares flow charts and diagrams to illustrate the sequence of steps the program will follow and to describe the logic of the process, and composes documentation to describe program development, logic, coding and modifications.
MUST BE A CURRENT, REGULAR EMPLOYEE OF LOUISVILLE METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Liberal Arts, Library Science, Physical Science, Social Science or related discipline.
OR
Certification as a Certified: Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator, Solution Developer, Applications Developer, or Database Administrator from Microsoft, Cisco, Novell, Red Hat (Linux), or Oracle.
One (1) year of systems analysis, programmer analyst, applications development, or relational database management experience in a client/server environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
POLICE
Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.
Must not have been convicted of a felony (Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis).
Must provide one's own source of transportation.
Must work a varied schedule.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Applicants who have illegally bought, sold, or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug, other than marijuana, without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work.
