What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Tipper-CDL position at Louisville Metro Government?
Essential Functions:
Collects and disposes refuseExamples of Work:
UNDER CLOSE SUPERVISION
Operates equipment that conveys refuse back into the body of the truck
Drives a variety of trucks as needed
Accompanies the refuse truck to the disposal/recycling/recovery facility
Guides the driver in backing the truck
Rides on packer steps utilizing three points of contact while moving up to 10 miles per hour
Steps up and down off packer step constantly to approach trash container/recycling bin/yard waste
Visually inspects container for any unusual items on the surface
Tests lift container to ensure weight requirements (potentially off curb)
Tilts and pushes container (Up to 90 gallons/450lbs) and transfers to the packer flippers at the rear of the truck and then opens lid
Lifts excess bags/boxes/bundles/recycling bins on the ground from the curb to the packer truck
Uses flipper hydraulic controls to dump trash container up into hopper and back down and closes lid
Tilts and pushes and carries container/recycling bin back to the same area where it was originally set (potentially on curb)
Rolls containers up/down inclined surfaces and slippery pavement due to ice, snow, and rain, through and around overgrowth of limbs, moving vehicles, dogs, and harmful debris
Complies with all OSHA standards and Metro & Departmental Safety Policies and Rules
Performs related workPhysical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping, climbing on equipment and lifting objects over 75 pounds
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions
Performs tasks repeatedly up to 1400 times per day, in all climates of weather and in hazardous terrain Maneuvers the containers/bins around parked vehicles
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or the equivalent
Other Minimums:
Must pass a pre-employment physical agility test
Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain within three months of employment
KSAs:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to use hand tools such as a broom, shovel, or rake to clean up spilled refuse, glass and other debris
Ability to follow oral and written directions

Step 1: $20.78/hour – 0-3 Months
Step 2: $21.14/hour - 3-6 Months
Step 3: $21.87/hour – 6 Months
Class B CDL: $1.00 per hour
