What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Services Supervisor position at Louisville Metro Government?
The purpose of this position is to evaluate programs, procedures, and recommends modifications. Supervise and coordinate social service program operations.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures.
• Represents the department to the public to coordinate, explain and discuss programs and services.
• Researches and compiles information, prepares correspondence and reports, and completes special projects.
• Plans, directs and supervises the activities and operations of a component of a social service program for individuals, youth and families.
• Assigns projects and case investigations, reviews case plans to ensure compliance with procedures and to ensure achievement of program objectives.
• Evaluates and recommends modifications in program procedures and operations to improve services, effectiveness and efficiency.
• Coordinates programs and activities with social service and medical agencies.
• Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning crisis intervention, case management, social assessments, available community resources, report writing, clinical and investigative methods and techniques and procedures.
• Participates in training, staff development, and quality assurance activities.
• Conducts meetings to discuss issues, problems or concerns regarding client cases.
• Visits clients in their home, and resolves problems and disputes between clients, family, and staff.
MORE CENTER
• Interviews clients for program eligibility and social assessment.
• Counsels and assesses clients to determine specific needs and services, to establish goals and objectives for treatment plans, and to analyze the effectiveness and achievement of recommended treatment plans.
• Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social or Human Services or related discipline.
• Three (3) years of social work; social, youth or community service; quality assurance, or program development and evaluation experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment.
• Must be on 24-hour call.
• Must provide one's own source of transportation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
