What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Library Assistant position at Louisville Metro Government?
The purpose of this position is to assists library patrons and librarians with library services.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Gives talks to community groups and schools, and directs tours of the library.
• Assists patrons in selecting and locating library materials.
• Answers reference and directional questions from patrons.
• Charges or discharges library materials for patrons.
• Organizes and notifies patrons of reserve materials.
• Prepares and notifies patrons of overdue materials.
• Processes new library materials.
• Prepares and maintains materials for patron use in area of assignment.
• Provides suggestions regarding book selections.
• Plans and conducts programs.
• Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in English, History, Library Science or related discipline.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must be available to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Must be available to work at any library branch as assigned.
• Must provide one's own source of transportation.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
