Wage Rate: $25.65 to $33.35 per hour
General Function:
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for repairing and maintaining facilities and building structures, as well as airfield systems and associated equipment including mechanical systems, plumbing systems, electrical equipment & systems, and HVAC systems at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and Bowman Field (This position is part of a 24/7 operation and subject to call backs and overtime.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for efficiently carrying out work orders issued until completion of the workflow.
- Checks, maintains, and repairs doors, access panels, access control systems, and roof locks.
- Service and maintains mechanical and overhead doors.
- Repairs and maintains jet bridges, and other support equipment, conveyors, and baggage carousels.
- Performs maintenance on domestic water and wastewater systems and maintains, repairs, and replaces plumbing fixtures, water lines and sewer lines.
- Maintains, replaces, and inspects back flow preventers.
- Maintains fire hydrants, inspects, and advises replacement schedules.
- Assists with corrective and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems.
- Daily monitoring of all air conditioning and heating systems; inspecting, maintaining, repairing equipment as needed, including but not limited to repairing leaks, recharging air conditioning systems, install and maintenance of all duct work and insulation, and replacing bearings and electrical motors on Airport HVAC equipment.
- Inspects, cleans, and maintains air compressors, airline cleaners, filters, and air-cooling equipment.
- Inspects and reassembles boilers, checking for proper operation and chemical balance.
- Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles or replaces defective electrical equipment such as plugs, switches, outlets, ballasts, motors, and appliances, using hand tools, test equipment, and service manuals.
- Performs new electrical installation as well as modifications to existing systems.
- Performs assigned day to day repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance.
- Complete various maintenance and repair tasks in various trades to include carpentry, painting, electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, and welding.
- Assists in maintaining the airfield in compliance with FAA Part 139.
- Operates snow removal equipment and participates in snow removal operations.
- This position is subject to participation in on call/standby rotation.
- Performs other duties and assignments as directed.
Employment Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain appropriate Authority driving and escort privileges.
- Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, rough terrain and have safe work and driving habits.
- Must have the ability to access and operate all equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to act with integrity.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, while exercising sound judgement.
- Disciplined work ethic: Must occasionally work extended hours and is subject to emergency call backs.
- May work in inclement weather and have ability to navigate all areas where work is performed and/or assigned.
- Ability to effectively communicate over a two-way radio.
- Ability to write routine reports, work orders, and correspondence and respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, coworkers, and/or supervisor.
- Must pass criminal history background check and maintain eligibility for a security access badge in accordance with the Airport Security Plan.
- Must be willing to work second shift it needed.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills. Will be required to use computer and/or IPAD for work order system, email, and training.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in general facilities maintenance.
- Must obtain RPZ (Runway Protection Zone) Certification within 2 years of hire.
The Facilities Technician will work as part of a team to maintain Airport buildings and equipment to ensure the safety and comfort of Airport employees and visitors. Duties may vary according to job assignment.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
This position is primarily performed in an outdoor environment in a variety of climates. Involves exposure to extreme noise, vibrations, chemical, and other contaminants, moving mechanical hazards and extremes of temperature and weather conditions. Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses; sufficient auditory ability, with or without audio logical devices; able to tolerate exposure to noise levels up to 120 decibels; capable of being on one’s feet for extended periods of time and lifting 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to distinguish colors as required to discern light-gun signals from signals from the Air Traffic Control Tower. This class specification should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
