Overview
Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of routine and non-routine tasks, following established techniques and procedures. Coordinates and administers a funded research study/activity or group of associated activities. Assists in project planning, and ensures the pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. Activities as a study coordinator may include scheduling team work assignments, acting as the primary point of contact for the study director for a study, and developing forms and computer applications to capture data points required by the study protocol. Activities as a study coordinator include demonstrating the capability to manage all aspects of the in-life portion of the study and to provide real-time updates to the study director. Conducts technical aspects of the position in accordance with applicable guiding documents that include but are not limited to SOPs, protocols, and regulations. Assists in refining these procedures as well as implementing new procedures. Work assignments are often very complex. Consistently demonstrates leadership, professionalism and independence, works in harmony with co-workers and is viewed as a leader by peers. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Assists in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate areas, reviewing data, coordinating sample shipment, and acting as study coordinator.
Qualifications
One (1) to two (2) years of relevant post high school education (college, university or technical school) in a science curriculum and three (3) to four (4) years of equivalent experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory with demonstrated ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments. Must have a minimum of 3 years of animal experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity. Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment. A Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field is preferred. ALAT level, LAT level and LATG certification is preferred. Incumbent is encouraged to sit for ALAT and/or LAT within 6 months of becoming eligible. LAT and/or LATG within the first 24 months as a level 4 technician is encouraged.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience $500 sign-on bonus.
