Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis and Repair: Identify and fix mechanical, electrical, and structural issues on trailers.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance to ensure trailer safety and longevity.
- System Expertise: Work with braking systems (including ABS), electrical systems, suspensions, and chassis components.
- Component Replacement: Replace or repair tires, wheels, bearings, brakes, and other components.
- Welding and Fabrication: Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the structural and cosmetic aspects of semi-trailer bodies, including panels, rails, roofs, flooring, and doors, often requiring welding and fabrication skills.
- Documentation: ACCURATELY record repairs, inspections, and maintenance performed.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures and DOT regulations.
- Mobile Service: Some roles may involve servicing trailers at customer sites or on the road.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: STRONG mechanical aptitude, knowledge of trailer systems, and ability to use tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues effectively.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work quickly & efficiently, lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various conditions.
- Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety procedures and regulations.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
- Experience: Previous experience in trailer repair or related fields is preferred but willing to train if you have strong mechanical aptitude. CDL preferred but not required.
Summary
As a Semi Trailer Technician, you will be essential in diagnosing and repairing various mechanical issues in semi-trailers, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. Reporting to the Owner/Service Manager, you will utilize your core skills in automotive diagnostics, mechanical knowledge, and vehicle maintenance to perform repairs on transmissions, air brakes, and hydraulics. Your premium skills in heavy equipment operation and fabrication will enhance your effectiveness in this role. Strong communication skills and a commitment to customer service will be vital as you interact with clients and provide high-quality service in a fast-paced environment.
