What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tour Guide position at Lowcountry Watersports?
Lowcountry Watersports, a leading watersports company on Hilton Head Island, is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable Watersports Guides to lead Jet Ski, Dolphin, Creek Cat, Mini Boat and and Kayak Tours. Our guides play a key role in providing memorable experiences while prioritizing safety, exceptional customer service, and sharing insights about the local waterways and marine life.
Key Responsibilities:
Tour Guiding & Customer Interaction:
- Lead guests on guided tours via Jet Skis, Creek Cat, Mini boats, Dolphin Boat or Kayaks through scenic waterways.
- Provide engaging and informative commentary on local wildlife, history, and points of interest.
- Ensure guests are comfortable and enjoying their experience throughout the tour.
Safety & Training:
- Conduct pre-tour safety briefings, including instructions on equipment use and safety protocols.
- Monitor guest behavior and provide on-the-spot assistance as needed to ensure safety.
- Stay aware of weather conditions and make adjustments to tour plans as necessary for guest safety.
Equipment Handling & Maintenance:
- Assist guests with properly fitting life jackets and operating equipment.
- Inspect and maintain watersports equipment, reporting any issues to the management team.
- Perform minor cleaning and upkeep of equipment after each tour.
Team Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with other guides and staff to coordinate tour schedules and equipment availability.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding any safety concerns, guest feedback, or equipment needs.
Qualifications:
- Strong boating, Jet Ski, or kayaking skills (prior experience preferred).
- Familiarity with Hilton Head Island waterways and local marine life (or willingness to learn).
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Strong swimming ability and comfort working on or near the water.
Certifications (Preferred or Required):
- CPR and First Aid certification (required for most guide positions).
- Boating safety certification (preferred but not mandatory)
Personal Attributes:
- Outgoing and friendly personality with a passion for customer service.
- Responsible, safety-conscious, and able to stay calm under pressure.
- Team player with a flexible and positive attitude.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.
