Job Summary:
The State licensing Manager is principally responsible for ensuring code compliance and adherence to state/local regulations which includes holding and maintaining specific trade licenses and ensuring customer satisfaction and risk mitigation with installation projects. Knowledge of the construction industry, permitting/code requirements, and ability to build and maintain relationships will be essential for success.
Responsibilities also consist of knowledge of any/all building codes in their coverage area, execution of job site visitations and/or audits in conjunction with store/field teams. This will entail conducting regular meetings with stakeholders to provide business updates, discover training needs and/or operational gaps from the compliance perspective and developing plans to rectify. This position will require individual to utilize problem solving skills and critical thinking in time sensitive situations that may directly impact the customer experience and company.
The State Licensing Manager will provide full leadership over direct reports and will work cross functionally providing leadership to support compliance initiatives as appropriate.
- Oversee development and maintenance of comprehensive information related to applicable license requirements to assure the company practices are accurate and accessible as a resource to be used across the organization.
- Serve as a leader and brand ambassador to promote company activities related to state/local licensing requirements.
- Develop a general execution guidance to support assigned company functions in issues related to applicable licensing.
- Have extensive construction industry knowledge and pre-established contact with local contracting industry officials.
- Subject Matter Expert on permit and construction code regulation for municipalities in assigned area of responsibility; also, performing audits against these items.
- Plan and coordinate travel to build/maintain relationships with any and all municipal officials.
- Analyze data to identify issues, root causes, and trends in customer appeasement and contributors to financial loss. Based upon findings, develop and implement action to mitigate.
- Lead and direct team to take actions that drive efficiency, mitigate risk, and improve customer satisfaction in install categories.
- Identifies developmental needs of team members and provides coaching and other developmental opportunities to enhance knowledge or skills.
- Collaborate and communicate cross functionally with internal and external groups, including but not limited to: Store/Field/SSC Associates and Leaders, Building Officials, Customer, Legal, Code Enforcement, Contractor/Licensing Entities, Independent PROvider network.
- Perform continuous review of building/trade code requirements to ensure legal compliance and inform appropriate stakeholders. Take necessary steps to update processes to remain in compliance.
- Interacting with Independent PROviders and customer on job-site visits, based upon business need.
- Obtain and hold licenses on Lowe's behalf as required.
- The State Licensing Manager will work closely with various entities to mitigate customer installed sales complaints in their respective coverage area.
- Negotiate and contract with third party services to support compliance strategies as needed.
- Manage resources, budgets and expenses as related to State Licensing Requirements.
- High school diploma AND 10 years’ experience working in the home improvement or construction industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Administration AND 5 years’ experience working in the home improvement or construction industry
- Licensed driver with reliable transportation and ability to pass MVR screen
- Knowledge of local permitting requirements and ability to read and interpret permitting specifications, codes and ordinances
- Broad knowledge of interior/exterior product categories (e.g., flooring, cabinets, millwork, building materials, appliances, home decor, electrical, plumbing)
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and organization
