Summary:

Under general supervision of the clinical pharmacy team, this full-time position is responsible for the support of pharmacy team initiatives related to pharmacy utilization of medications prescribed for the patients of Lowell Community Health Center. The Clinical Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the clinical pharmacy team and provides the day-to-day support for patient outreach, STI prevention and education, medication refill requests, and prior authorizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with nursing staff in the treatment and vaccination of patients.
  • Collaborate with other prevention staff in prioritizing and meeting patient needs.
  • Complete administrative work such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing results as assigned by team lead.
  • Assist with data entry and monitoring/researching patient health records for patient outreach regarding scheduling, medications, prior authorization requests, and ad hoc reports.
  • Provide real time information to patients and/or health care professions regarding medication refill status, appointments, and prior authorizations.
  • Facilitate and track supported referrals.
  • Provide support to the clinical staff by reviewing all refill requests and ensuring that the medication protocol/guidelines have been met.
  • Manage refill requests that are submitted from multiple sources: refill telephone line, E-prescribing and direct patient requests.
  • Provide outreach and recruitment as regulated by funder (includes offsite, field outreach).
  • Complete all required documentation of services provided in patient’s Electronic Medical Record.
  • Complete monthly reporting.
  • Participate in monthly individual administrative supervision and group clinical supervision.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and in-service programs as requested.
  • Assist with disease management initiatives. Work with other members of the clinical pharmacy team in conjunction with providers to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues to effectively contribute to the working groups, achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy required.
  • Nationally certified with Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board (PCTB) and be in good standing.
  • Minimum 1 years of retail, drug utilization review, or physician office management experience or 2 years of hospital experience required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records, Epic preferred.
  • Ability to work is in a fast-paced clinic-based setting and ability to work remotely.
  • Bilingual Spanish/Khmer/Portuguese highly preferred.

Work Environment:

Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, nurses and other department staff. Occasional requests to change work areas to cover another priority area to meet patient needs. Occasional stress and pressure caused by multiple simultaneous demands. May be exposed to various body fluids and/or infectious diseases. Universal precautions and techniques are included in orientation and the availability of protective wear is supported and encouraged when the employee is at risk for exposure.
