Lowell Discovery Telescope Safety Technician
The Lowell Discovery Telescope Safety Technician (LDT ST) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of the LDT Telescope Operator (LDT TO) and the Safety Technician during nighttime telescope operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regular communication with the LDT TO via video conference
- Maintain a clean work environment at the LDT facility
- Log and report any safety issues or incidents
- Provide emergency first aid and call for medical personnel as needed
Qualifications and Expectations:
- Familiarity with online video conferencing software
- Responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail
- Able to work safely and independently at a remote location
Working Conditions:
The LDT ST works primarily at the Lowell Discovery Telescope in Happy Jack, Arizona, at an elevation of approximately 7,800 feet. The job requires working in unpredictable environmental conditions, including temperature ranges from -20 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and inclement winter weather.
Job Requirements:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- No prior experience required; training will be provided if necessary
- Valid driver's license or ability to obtain an AZ state driver's license
Compensation and Benefits:
- $20/hour compensation
- Part-time, seasonal position with approximately 10-30 hours/week
- Benefits include sick time accrual and paid personal days after 6 months of employment
