Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 315 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a Camp Support Coordinator. The Camper Support Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all campers. This individual is responsible for managing camper behavior, facilitating conflict resolution, and providing emotional and social support to ensure a positive camp experience. The ideal candidate is empathetic, resourceful, and skilled in working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities. This role is anticipated to be 35-40 hours per week.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
  • Familiarity with behavior management and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing situations.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • CPR / First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Major Responsibilities :

  • Act as the primary point of contact for campers experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to help campers navigate interpersonal conflicts and homesickness.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address challenging behaviors while fostering personal growth and accountability.
  • Collaborate with counselors to establish clear expectations and positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Respond promptly to camper incidents, ensuring safety and emotional well-being.
  • Escalate situations as necessary to the Camp Director or appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in pre-camp staff training on topics such as conflict resolution, behavior management, and inclusion.
  • Serve as a resource for counselors to address camper-related concerns.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents or guardians regarding camper needs and progress.
  • Document incidents and support plans accurately and confidentially.
  • Promote an environment that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion for all campers, including those with special needs.
  • Partner with camp leadership to adapt activities and environments to ensure accessibility.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical capacity to participate in camp activities and respond to emergencies.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.

    The Expected Salary Range : is $25.00 - $35.00 per hour.
