Job Description
- Overview
- In concert with the Building Principal and the Athletic Director, the Head Girls Soccer Coach supervises, coordinates, and promotes all phases of the interscholastic soccer program. This person is directly responsible to the Building Principal and the Athletic Director.
- The coach is expected to provide an atmosphere in which all athletes are treated in a fair manner. The coach shall exercise appropriate leadership to ensure that the program has a positive and productive influence on the total educational experience of athletes.
- The coach must know his/her sport thoroughly, be familiar with current trends of the sport, have adequate skill background, and encourage wide student participation in the sport. The coach must be cognizant of all safety issues and hazards associated with his/her sport, communicate these concerns to players, and devote full effort in providing as safe an atmosphere as possible.
- Essential Functions
- Work in close association with the Athletic Director concerning budgeting, scheduling, transportation, equipment ordering, hiring of officials and use of building and grounds.
- Order new equipment through the Athletic Director, and care for, issue, and collect uniforms and equipment.
- Issue physical forms and parental permission forms to players informing them of physical examination dates and procedures.
- Work with the Athletic Trainer in reporting and treating all injuries.
- Compile an eligibility list required by the P.I.A.A.
- Determine methods for and conduct tryouts (if cuts are deemed necessary)
- Develop objectives prior to the season designed to meet the specific needs of the total soccer program.
- Plan and supervise all practices so that adequate time is allotted for all phases of soccer.
- Design practices for individual skill improvement and total team coordination.
- Establish discipline, attitude, training rules, and drug and alcohol policies conducive to individual and team success, considering at all times the welfare of the individual, but uppermost the welfare of the entire team and school district.
- Counsel athletes concerning future endeavors, including selection of institutions of higher learning and obtaining scholarships; individually counsel players whose attitude, behavior or performance is unsatisfactory.
- Plan and present discussions which will motivate players to compete in a manner that reflects a positive image of the Lower Dauphin School District.
- Demonstrate a behavior and demeanor which will serve as an appropriate model for young adults.
- Promote good human relations within the Lower Dauphin student body and faculty, extending this same effort into the community in order to have a blended school-community spirit.
- Determine letter winners consistent with school policy.
- Strive to improve coaching skills and techniques through continuing education.
- Devote all necessary time for practice sessions and games, while remaining responsible for the well-being of all athletes.
- Remain cognizant of and maintain practices and policies consistent with the P.I.A.A. and Mid-Penn regulations.
- Conduct other soccer-related duties assigned by the Building Principal, Athletic Director, and the Superintendent of Schools.
- Submit completed records and reports to the Athletic Director evaluating the season.
- Promote a feeling of confidence and well-being for members of the team.
- Assume the responsibility for supervision of the locker room and players before and after practices and games when necessary.
- Evaluate assistant coaches.
- Coordinate the activities of the booster club if one exists for the sport.
- Develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with other head coaches and other school personnel to enhance the overall school program.
- Secure practice area and building after each practice.
- Assume responsibility for proper student behavior on buses to and from away events.
- Assume responsibility for cleanliness of bus, locker room and bench area at away events.
- Attend annual league and P.I.A.A. mandatory meetings.
- Recommend outstanding student athletes for school, league, and community awards.
- Assign daily, weekly, and seasonal duties to assistant and volunteer coaches.
