What are the responsibilities and job description for the PM Custodian position at Lower Dauphin School District?
- Overview
- Custodian will be a team member for all daily and summer cleaning efforts assigned to a specific building.
- Essential Functions
- Instill a positive service-minded attitude and feeling of pride in a job well done by demonstrating personal enthusiasm and team spirit
- Maintain inventory and assist in ordering cleaning materials and equipment
- Enter work orders for maintenance needs
- Assist Supervisor of Facility Operations with inspections and performance evaluations of building custodial staff and their assigned areas
- Keep the Building Administrators and Supervisor of Facility Operations informed about the short- and long-term needs of the building including any repairs and unusual findings
- Always maintain building security, assist the District in carrying out energy conservation efforts, and assist in conducting regular safety inspections of the building and grounds, including safety equipment at recommended intervals (i.e. fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems, emergency generators, etc.)
- Assist in opening and closing the building each school day; at the end of each day ensuring all doors and windows are locked and lights are turned off
- Perform all duties of a custodian on a daily basis
- Perform other similar duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Facility Operations, Building Administrators, and/or Superintendent of Schools
- Basic Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must have excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with building staff and administrators
- Must have the ability to work efficiently and independently without close supervision
- Act 34, Act 114, Act 126, Act 151, and Act 168 clearance information, training, and releases will be required
- Previous ability to effectively use a computer is preferred
- Proven demonstration of ability to work independently and resolve issues
- Exhibits an ability to work well with staff, students, and public
- Ability to strive toward a relationship with community that is conducive to the effective implementation of all District programs and services and represent the District to the public in a pleasant, positive fashion
- Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands for grasping and repetitive motions, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and smell
- Occasionally required climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or use a ladder safely
- Ability to lift/carry 25 lbs. independently; occasionally being able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently
- Give and receive oral instruction
- Typical building setting subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; custodians may be asked to work outside the building any month of the year where they may encounter heat, rain, wind, and cold environmental conditions
- Working hours vary based upon position, building location, and are subject to change based upon operational need
