The Early Education Coach at Lower Elwha Head Start is responsible for supporting and guiding early childhood educators in their professional development through coaching, training, and implementation of evidence-based teaching practices. This part-time position involves utilizing coaching frameworks such as Teaching Strategies Gold (TS) and CLASS to assess and enhance the skills of education staff, fostering growth in areas such as classroom management, child development, and instructional strategies. The coach will collaborate with staff to develop individualized plans, provide intensive coaching, and facilitate training sessions. This role requires strong expertise in early childhood education, teaching, and training, as well as experience in working with diverse and low-income families. Applicants must hold a BA in Early Childhood Education, have at least five years of teaching experience, and meet other specific qualifications. The position requires a high level of interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB :
Coaching :
- Learn and Implement current Teaching Strategies Gold (TS) Coaching to Fidelity plan as well as coaching programs offered through the Office of Head Start.
- Utilize a variety of formats including, but not limited to, CLASS, Coaching to Fidelity , and the app that accompanies Coaching to Fidelity to assess all education staff, identify strengths, areas of improvement, and who among the staff would benefit most from intensive coaching.
- Work with all teachers in assessing problem areas and collaborate with them to set short- and long- term goals, ensure documentation of follow up and progress.
- Develop written, individualized plans that identify clearly articulated steps for the goals set with staff.
- Provide opportunities for intensive coaching and ensure intensive coaching opportunities align with the program's school readiness goals, curricula, and other professional development strategies.
- Provide feedback to all teachers for the purpose of instructional support. Feedback may relate to, but not be limited to classroom environment, materials, daily structure and routines, positive guidance, classroom management, dealing with challenging behavior, individualized and outcome-focused interaction strategies to support children's development.
- Model developmentally appropriate practices and serve as a resource for participants on child development and professional development.
- Monitor teachers in classrooms to identify growth areas as well as provide guidance, both formally and informally.
- Assist Education Manager in ensuring curriculum fidelity through a variety of strategies.
- Record and submit written monthly reports, data collection, reports or other administrative forms in a timely manner.
