ABOUT LLCHC
Lower Lights Christian Health Center (LLCHC) transforms the overall health of Central Ohio, serving one individual at a time. We are focused on whole-person wellness, available to ALL in Central Ohio who need it, regardless of ability to pay! We served over 15,000 patients - with 40% being uninsured - and totaled 50,000 medical encounters!
Operating out of seven locations, we offer medical care (primary care, dental, vision, OB/GYN, telehealth), behavioral health care, 340B pharmacy, nutritional assistance programs, and more. Working hours are Monday - Friday with occasional Saturday morning coverage.
SUMMARY:
This position requires an experienced, highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our team in a busy medical office. The ideal candidate will have experience with medical coding and billing, and a strong understanding of medical terminology. The successful medical coder with be responsible for analyzing medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies. Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other organizational staff. Reviews and verifies documentation that supports diagnoses, procedures and treatment results. Identifies diagnostic and procedural information.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications.
- Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement.
- Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
- Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding and billing staff.
- Reviews and verifies documentation supports diagnoses, procedures and treatment results.
- Identifies diagnostic and procedural information.
- Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
- Assigns codes for reimbursements, research and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing guidelines.
- Follows coding conventions. Serves as coding consultant to care providers.
- Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues.
- Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors.
- Identifies reportable elements, complications, and other procedures.
- Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff.
- Assists lead or supervisor in orienting, training, and mentoring staff.
- Provides ongoing training to staff as needed.
- Handles special projects as requested.

Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent, a coding and billing training program completion, and a Minimum of one (1) year experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the following: Medicare, Managed Care Plans, Primary and Commercial Insurances Preferred
- Effective verbal and written English communication skills
- Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate at all levels of organization and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity
