What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance/Accounting Summer Intern position at Lower Merion Township?
Works under the general supervision of the Business Tax Compliance Specialist and Assistant Director of Finance.
Aids in the back-office processing of business tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Maintains and updates the business tax database, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
Responds to inquiries from businesses and taxpayers via phone, email, and in-person.
Provides exceptional customer service by addressing questions and resolving issues related to business taxes.
Supports the processing of business tax applications, renewals, and payments.
Maintains accurate and organized records of tax-related documents and transactions.
Collaborates with team members to ensure efficient and effective operation of the division.
Participates in special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary degree program (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Math, Public Administration, Accounting, or another related field).
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Familiarity with IRS Tax Forms helpful.
Ability to get up from desk, stand and assist the general public at a high volume public counter.Ability to sit for 7.5 hours per workday and to move about the department and Township building.
Ability to bend, stoop, climb, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, lift, push and pull occasionally to manipulate equipment and file.
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds of materials and objects up to 35% of the workday.
Ability to utilize computer equipment including keyboard, calculator and/or adding machine.
