What are the responsibilities and job description for the LTS Elementary Special Education Teacher position at Lower Pottsgrove Elementary?
Starting in March 2025, a vacancy exists for a long term sub elementary Special Education Teacher (Grades 3-5) at Lower Pottsgrove Elemtary School at Pottsgrove School District. Pottsgrove teachers develop curriculum and lesson plans, and present those lessons to their students, individually or in groups. Elementary special education certification required. Teaching position involves direct instruction, co-teaching, case management, and collaboration. The successful candidate must possess clear communication skills, effective instructional talents, ability to create and monitor appropriate special education documents, and establish relationships with students, colleagues and families. They track the progress of their students and create reports to inform parents about their progress. Teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful classroom environment in order to optimize student capabilities and develop their love of learning. This position will be part of the close-knit community of Pottsgrove staff who positively impact the lives of students each day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Special Education Teaching Certificate
- Experience working with students with autism perferred.
- Active and valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate for the elementary level.
- Prior teaching experience while not required may be preferred.
- An understanding of the latest instructional strategies in academic areas.
- Valid clearances dated within one year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work cooperatively with the principal, subject supervisors and other staff members to develop an integrated educational program for children.
- Assess the attitudes, skills and abilities of children for effective teaching and learning each marking period as well as on an annual basis.
- Provide meaningful, appropriate learning experiences for assigned groups of children including differentiated instruction to meet individual needs of children.
- Properly refer to the IST process those children experiencing unusual difficulties.
- Effectively implement IEP’s of identified children using the resources that are provided.
- Maintain a plan book as directed by the principal and submit plan book for review upon request. Have daily plans readily available for the use of a substitute in the event of absence.
- Appropriately integrate technology into the teaching learning process.
- Evaluate children’s progress as a basis for planning and reporting to parents.
- Complete and record students’ progress and attendance on appropriate records or documents.
- Modify general curriculum to meet the needs of students with ASD
- Teach in small and large groups, and model evidence-based interventions
- Develop and monitor behavior intervention plans, and provide technical assistance during behavior crises
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals
- Train teachers and paraprofessionals on behavior management, curriculum, and instructional deliver
- Create and coordinate student schedules with related services and general education.
- Participate in several staff development trainings that focus on working with students with Autism
- Support with the instruction and development of students adaptive functional and self help skill areas.
LOCATION: Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School
SALARY: Placement on the PGEA Salary Schedule based on experience and education. This is a contract position.
