Town Road Crew Job Description
General Statement of Duties: Performance in a variety of tasks involving construction, maintenance and repairs to Municipal roads, storm sewers, facilities, equipment, trees, and building maintenance.
Job Description: Employee would perform manual tasks in maintenance, construction and repair of town roads, right of ways, etc. The road maintenance employee would be required to operate a dump truck, plow, heavy equipment, hand tools, motorized equipment, mowers, tractors and various other equipment. Assignments are supervised and outlined by the Road Superintendent and or Supervisors.
Examples of work: (The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.)
- Drive Trucks, haul and stockpile dirt, gravel & salt, blacktop and fill road and street construction and repairs.
- Patch roads and streets with hot and cold blacktop mix, resurface roads, grade roads, roll roads.
- Check culverts and shoulders, clean and flush storm drains.
- Erect road signs in accordance with state requirements, install and repair. Make new signs if necessary.
- Operate power equipment including attachments, maintain and repair equipment in good operating condition.
- Perform road maintenance in repairing roads, catch basins, etc.
- Plow snow, remove snow, salt roads as well as municipal parking lot.
- Pick up trash and debris, clean catch basins and remove leaves.
- Perform shop work.
- Tree trimming, removal of trees, brush and stumps. Mowing, brushing and clearing of right of ways.
- Answer emergency calls, when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the Road Superintendent or Supervisors.
- Welding experience a plus.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of general maintenance, construction, tools and equipment. CDL required.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in performing maintenance, construction and repair work.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practice in at least one of the building trades and of street and road maintenance repair.
- Ability to perform the maintenance and repair.
- Ability to perform strenuous work, including heavy lifting.
- Anticipate on call and respond to weather emergency events requiring road maintenance under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to carry out oral and written instruction.
- Ability to operate heavy constructions and related equipment
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, CDL required.
- Participation required in random drug and alcohol testing.
- Willing to work outside work hours
- 10 hour days, 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $24.00 per hour
