What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Educator Part-Time (River Center) position at Loxahatchee River District / River Center?
Summary Statement:
The Environmental Educator is responsible for leading education programs, including tours and activities at the River Center. Education programming may include people of all ages, but typically focuses on school-aged children. Regular workdays are Wednesday and Friday although schedule may be changed due to staffing needs (e.g. special events, staff vacations, etc.). Additionally daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting guests, caring for aquatic life, assisting guests, and assisting with special events. Position is part-time averaging 20 hours or less per week.
Responsibilities:
- Lead environmental education program for all ages with a focus on elementary age students.
- Provide environmental education opportunities after school for elementary age students at the River Center or the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area.
- Lead evening environmental education programs for adults and families.
- Develop and implement new ideas for public engagement and involvement with specific groups (residential developments, retirement communities, special interest groups, and other civic organizations).
- Guide volunteers doing visitor services, program preparation, program assisting or small projects.
- Greet guests.
- Assist guests at exhibits including touch tank.
- Answer phones and other administrative duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education & Experience:
- ·High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years experience
- Prior environmental education experience is preferred.
- Valid Florida Drivers License
- Pass drug test and Level II Background check
- Ability to operate a District vehicle.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.87 - $28.58 per hour
