What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audio Engineer position at Loyola Marymount University?
The Audio Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that University events, classes, and media productions have the highest quality audio experience. This role requires an exceptional ear for detail, the ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems, and the ability to successfully work with a diverse range of university stakeholders including executives, deans, faculty, staff, and students. This role also requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills. This position reports to the Manager of Learning Space & Lab Technology and works closely with the Senior Campus A/V Engineer, Classroom Support Coordinator, Creative Services Coordinator and other Technology Support Specialists. Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities Events Set up, operate, and troubleshoot sound systems and other audio/visual equipment for live events on campus Coordinate with event organizers, performers, and technicians to ensure optimal sound quality and safety Monitor and adjust sound levels, frequencies, and effects before and during live events Record, edit, and mix audio tracks for post-production purposes Coordinate and collaborate with Conferences & Events, Special Events, Office of the President, and other University offices to ensure that support needs are met Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive and calm presence during live events Classrooms Research, design and implement technology to improve web conferencing and recordings in university classrooms and event spaces Research complex issues related to software and hardware issues and identify and implement solutions Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors on the design and creation of new or upgraded facilities Provide classroom and other learning space A/V Support Other Partner with the ITS Creative Services team as needed on projects Maintain and repair equipment, such as microphones, speakers, mixers, amplifiers, and cables Provide technical support and training to ITS student workers and other staff Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in sound engineering and live event production Respond, diagnose, and resolve client inquiries concerning systems operation, system hardware, and software problems. Requisite Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Recording Arts, Theater Production, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent job experience At least 3 years of experience in live audio production for various types of events Proficient in using audio tools such as Mixers, Microphones, and Amps Experience configuring Bi-AMP, Q-SYS, and other DSP products Understanding of DANTE workflows and ability to configure DANTE equipment and environments Knowledgeable in sound design, acoustics, signal processing, and audio engineering principles Experience configuring and installing Crestron AV products Experience providing Pro Tools support preferred Familiar with various genres of music and styles of sound production Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Passionate about sound and media technology The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
