What are the responsibilities and job description for the EEO Officer position at Loyola Marymount University?
To ensure that the Loyola Marymount University community understands and adheres to the University’s discriminatory harassment policies, resulting in a community where all members are treated fairly and humanely. Advocates for just and fair application of policies and procedures. Promotes the development of programs and activities to support a culture of open inquiry, pluralism and mutual respect among students, faculty and staff.
Position Specific Accountabilities
- Provides expertise to University staff and faculty in the areas of equal employment opportunity, harassment, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Develops and implements training programs and materials to educate the University community (faculty, staff, and students) regarding discriminatory harassment issues, policies and procedures.
- Oversees human resource compliance activities including but not limited to policy updates, monitoring human resource compliance activities, communicating needs and reporting status. Point person for external reporting as required, e.g., Department of Labor litigation reporting.
- Oversees the investigation and resolution of complaints of discriminatory harassment, ensuring the prompt, equitable and impartial review of complaints in accordance with the University’s discriminatory harassment policies.
- Organizes and maintains grievance files, disposition reports and other compiled records regarding complaints of discriminatory harassment, including preparation of annual descriptive reports of number and nature of complaints filed with Human Resources and disposition thereof. Supports management of active litigation through liaison with outside counsel and insurer, United Educators.
- Manages policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies with respect to equity in employment. Responsible for community communication. Ensures that grievance procedures and structures are in place and functional so that all parties have fair and equitable access.
- Develops and implements an assessment plan to monitor the community climate regarding discriminatory harassment.
- Remains informed on applicable law, policy, trends, and principles affecting the area of equal employment opportunity.
- Serves as liaison between University and various enforcement agencies.
- Responsible for supervision and professional development of the EEO Specialist / Investigations.
- Represents human resources externally through participation in professional organizations and internally by serving on committees and task forces as identified.
