Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Applications, the Manager of Application Engineering enables and accelerates the University’s mission and goals by delivering efficient and innovative technology solutions. This position manages a team of business analysts and cloud application engineers who are responsible for the analysis, programming and maintenance needs of enterprise applications and identity systems in the cloud. Additionally, the team is responsible for developing and supporting web services-based integrations and integration architectures.
As a technical architect and cloud application engineer, this position leads enterprise technical design activities and drives enterprise application cloud adoption. As member of the ITS Leadership team, this position also leads both operational and strategic IT projects.
The Manager of Application Engineering will foster close relationships with their peer managers in the Enterprise team to ensure that enterprise applications development work is being done according to department standards and meets the needs of the LMU Community.
The Manager of Application Engineering will also require hands-on programming, analysis, and maintenance duties, as the incumbent is responsible for certain technical aspects of the operation, including, but not limited to system maintenance, troubleshooting and integration design.
Position Specific Responsibilities
Managing the Application Engineering Team. This includes, but is not limited to, interviewing, hiring, training, motivating, evaluating and directing employees.
Managing change to LMU enterprise solutions, including the design, implementation, testing and deployment of applications in LMU’s cloud data center. Where needed, managing projects in accordance with the LMU Project Management Methodology.
Leading the software evaluation of potential enterprise solutions, in accordance with established LMU ITS evaluation criteria. Ensuring technical solutions are innovative, deliver business value and meet the needs of University stakeholders.
As part of the leadership team, building a collaborative and positive environment.
Leading and assisting with troubleshooting problems and delegating work when appropriate. Insuring a positive customer experience for LMU stakeholders.
Providing advanced technical guidance to business analysts, application engineers / programmers and system administrators. Drives adoption of both AWS Cloud technologies and AI-based capabilities within the Enterprise team.
Codes, debugs, tests, and deploys software applications. Prepares and conducts comprehensive system and programming tests. Debugs malfunctions and modifies programs accordingly. Monitors performance and security of programs after implementation.
Insures efficient and accurate operation of identity and access systems.
Monitor the effectiveness of systems in supporting the changing needs of the University. Keeps aware of current trends in higher education enterprise systems as well as emerging best practices in the IT industry, and evaluates the applicability of new systems to the needs of the University.
Represents LMU within the IT community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required. Represents IT within the LMU community; serve as a liaison between the LMU community and the technology community.
Maintains a thorough understanding of LMU enterprise systems, their current state and future roadmaps. Provides expertise and thought leadership to senior LMU leadership.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Enterprise Applications.

Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Bachelor of Science / Engineering Degree in Computer Science / Engineering or related field or equivalent experience in full software lifecycle development. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation / policy changes.
Minimum 7 years of experience in information technology; 2 years of experience in progressively responsible positions in technical project and program management with an emphasis on integrated Enterprise Software Systems. Experience in higher education and / or prior management experience a plus.
Knowledge of business analysis and business analysis best practices.
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of multiple programming languages (.NET, Python, Java, C, C , etc).
Demonstrated knowledge of cloud computing and Platform-as-a-Service tools within AWS. Azure expertise a plus. AWS certifications a plus.
Experience implementing and maintaining identity management software, including Microsoft Identity Manager and Microsoft Entra Suite.
Experience using and supporting relational databases (Oracle, MSSQL, etc), data management and ETL tools (Talend, Mulesoft, etc).
Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.
