Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Serves as primary point of contact between Loyola University Chicago and Clinton Elementary
  • Supervises and participates in the hiring and training of out-of-school time program staff. Develops and implements a comprehensive training program for staff that includes culturally responsive practices and Youth Program Quality Assessment standards.
  • Coordinates and supervises school-based youth and adult programming, with a minimum enrollment of 500 students per school year and 100 adults per school year.
  • Coordinates operations of the out-of-school-time program. Uses management skills necessary to effectively address all levels of risk management, discipline and behavior problems in the out-of-school-time program.
  • Plans and makes recommendations for the implementation of high quality program activities that meet the mission and vision of program and that provide a range of learning.
  • Has full responsibility for meeting program requirements in partnership with community schools and families, and University and funder standards for out-of-school-time programs, including record-keeping and monitoring of policies and procedures.
  • Supervises Loyola full-time on-site staff including grant-funded Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator and the grant-funded Restorative Justice Coordinator, along with part-time staff consisting of 20-30 program instructors, parent liaisons, and non-instructional support staff.
  • Coordinates school-day mental and behavioral health supports with Clinton’s Behavioral Health Team (BHT)
  • Recruits, trains, and places Loyola School of Education students in classrooms with high ESL needs.
  • May provide direct service to youth and parents.
  • Seeks input from teachers, school staff, LSC members, parents, and students to determine ongoing needs of students and families. This includes an annual comprehensive needs assessment process.
  • Negotiates agreements within the approved program with agencies and individuals who provide services. Secures appropriate University approvals as necessary.
  • At principal’s request, and with University approval, assumes responsibility for additional out-of-school-time programs.
  • Assures that site-based grant reporting and evaluation components are completed.
  • Responsible for maintaining expenditures, including staffing costs, transportation, supplies, training, etc. within $450,000 annual budget. Budgeting must be coordinated with school district and comply with district and funder restrictions.
  • Makes purchases for program as necessary.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or terminal degree as defined by department.
  • Minimum of two years professional experience in education, youth development, social work, community organizing or related field

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of children and youth program strategies that serve K-8 students
  • Experience with urban public education and youth development practices
  • Experience organizing individuals, groups, and organizations toward articulated goals
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with or knowledge of special education is a plus

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Position Requirements:
  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology or related field with at least five (5) years of experience working with children in an educational, activity, or social service programs.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, University staff, parents and community partners.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and some weekends.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in required computer programs, Windows, WORD, EXCEL, and Outlook; ability to learn University and funder computer programs.

Computer Skills
Successful applicant will have at least basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft office suite or other, similar tools for word processing and spreadsheet creation.
