Job Summary
Perform various direct patient care procedures to assist unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on patient needs.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
Meet comfort and hygiene needs of patients.
Assist with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, including setting up and priming IV tubing, 12-lead ECG, simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, changing dressings, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and obtaining wound and throat cultures.
Equipment Management
Assist physician and professional staff in equipment supply and setup.
Transportation
Assist with ambulating patients using assistive devices such as crutches and transfer/transport procedures.
Communication
Perform required documentation and communicate effectively to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights.
Quality Improvement
Utilize time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.
Requirements
Education
High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education preferred.
Experience
Less than one year of previous job-related experience required; 1-2 years preferred.
Licensure/Certifications
Certified Nurse Assistant and BLS (Basic Life Support) through AHA required.
Other
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program required.
