The Career Development Center at Loyola University New Orleans is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a career coach for undergraduate and graduate students within an assigned group of majors. Career coaching duties will include individual and group career coaching on a wide range of career development topics including career exploration, skills and interest assessment, resume and cover letter preparation and development, full-time job and internship search strategy, career competency development, interviewing skills, personal branding, networking, professionalism, graduate and professional school planning and application, and other related topics. The position will be the primary liaison for students in their assigned group of majors and will engage with appropriate academic departments. 

This individual will develop and implement tailored career education programs for their student population as well as networking opportunities specific to related fields and industries. The career coach will assist with the promotion and implementation of all large-scale recruiting events and career fairs. This individual will serve as a liaison to student organizations and affinity groups seeking to infuse career readiness programming into existing and new programming, regularly responding to requests for career development programming, and actively seeking new opportunities to engage groups of students. The career coach will have the opportunity to serve as the team lead for one or more major strategic initiatives within the Career Development Center. Major strategic initiatives include outcomes and first-destinations data collection and reporting, experiential education, career exploration, career competency development, strategic marketing/branding, and mentoring and alumni connections.Reporting to the Director of Career Development, the successful candidate will:
  • Serve as the primary career coach to undergraduate and graduate students in their assigned group of majors. This will include individual and group career coaching on a wide range of career development topics including choice of major, skills assessment, resume and cover letter preparation and development, full time job and internship search strategy, interviewing skills, personal branding, networking, professionalism and graduate and professional school planning and application as well as other career development-related topics.
  • Develop and implement unique career education programming for their assigned student population.
  • Support students throughout all stages of the career-decision making process including in career exploration. Administer and interpret career inventories and assessments such as the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator
  • Facilitate career exploration workshops and classroom presentations in First Year Seminar courses, other invited courses, as well as outside the classroom. Utilize platforms such as Focus2 to provide quick and engaging career exploration content.
  • Play an active role in existing internship programs and related experiential learning courses throughout their assigned majors partnering with faculty to provide relevant information, best practices, and content. Assist with the development of future internship programs.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Prepare the Pack -internship preparation program.
  • Demonstrate an expertise and industry knowledge of career options for students.
  • Develop, foster, and maintain relationships with local, national, and international employers. Support efforts to educate employers on internship best practices and legal angles to supervising an intern. Strategically identify internship sites that best suit individual students, as well as current student body-needs.
  • Identify and connect students with relevant employers, programs, opportunities, and Loyola Alumni.
  • Develop and implement career panels and networking events to highlight career exploration and options related to the assigned student population.
  • Serve as liaison to various campus partners to deliver career programming and promote the Career Development Center.
  • Assist with the enhancement and coordination of the Loyno Alumni Career Mentoring initiative through LinkedIn and implement existing and develop new programming providing students the opportunity to connect with Alumni.
  • Develop a liaison relationship with appropriate departments within the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Music & Media including faculty, academic advisors, and teacher certification coordinator, communicating about relevant career-related information.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote internships, part-time jobs and full-time opportunities.
  • Develop a liaison relationship with Student Affairs offices (Residential Life, Department of Student Life and Ministries, etc.) planning programs and events for students focusing on major choice, career development, internship search, and career options.
  • Serve as the liaison for student organizations and affinity groups to infuse unique and tailored career readiness into their programming.
  • Coordinate the Student-Athlete Professional Development Requirement and serve as a liaison to student-athletes and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Develop, execute and summarize student learning outcomes and other assessment measures as a means to measure student learning.
  • Assist with Career Development Center social media and general marketing as needed.
  • Create communication streams with Loyola students to understand career programming opportunities, corporate programming events, and career services speakers and special events.
  • Develop, execute, and summarize student learning outcomes and other assessment measures as a means to measure student learning and program satisfaction.
  • Assist with executive summary reporting and data collection within the Career Development
  • Increase awareness and utilization of career resources and supporting career development initiatives.
  • Be familiar with all career development center policies and procedures, and maintain an ongoing awareness of programs and activities. Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
  • Conduct periodic benchmarking to ensure implementation of the best practices in career coaching.
  • Research and report major recruiting and employment trends within the fields related to assigned student populations and liaison areas.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the Career Development Center and other duties as assigned.

  • Assist with delivery of career development services to other majors or colleges as needed.
  • Additionally, some evening and weekend work is required and the individual will perform other office, divisional and University duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Knowledge of career development and student development theory and practice.
  • Minimum of 1 year of prior experience providing career guidance or advising for undergraduate students in a college/university setting. Graduate school assistantship in career advising, academic advising or student leadership is acceptable and will count towards experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation; creativity, ability to assume responsibility, takes initiative and motivates others.
  • Proven ability to design and present creative and innovative programs.
  • High level of professionalism.
  • Well-developed organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic career and job search principles and techniques, and working knowledge of recruiting software or CRM software.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license as a condition of employment, and must also be able to successfully pass any driver background information investigation and any driver education courses required by Risk Management.
 
 
  1. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in counseling, education, higher education, student personnel services, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing innovative approaches to engage students, alumni, faculty, staff and employers.
  • Prior experience working with students in assigned group of majors and/or knowledge of related fields.
  • High level of resourcefulness, influence/organizational savvy and execution skills (strategy through implementation) program development and management experience
  • Familiarity with the unique career development needs of students from government, pre-law, or education majors.
  • Knowledge of or certification in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory assessments preferred.

Salary : $40,000 - $43,000
