Under direct supervision of the Director of Mechanical Systems, to operate and maintain power plant equipment both in the Central Plant and in outlying buildings.
SHIFT WORK IS REQUIRED FOR 24-HOUR/7-DAY WEEK COVERAGE. POSITION IS ALSO SUBJECT TO BEING ON CALL, SCHEDULE CHANGES BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE UNIVERSITY, AND LONG HOURS TO COMPLETE/PERFORM SCHEDULED OR EMERGENCY FUNCTIONS/PROJECTS. POSITION IS THAT OF A WORKING SUPERVISOR WHO MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM ALL TASKS OF SUBORDINATES IF OR WHEN NECESSARY.

- Oversee Energy Management System.
- Oversee the Central Plant operations (2 locations).
- Administer Water Treatment Programs.
- Oversee the operation of all chillers, high temperature hot water, generators, boilers, pumps, and related equipment.
- Maintain logs of critical system temperatures, pressures, flows, etc.
- Responsible for handling shift schedules and operations coverage.
- Ensure continued operation of all campus building equipment and systems.
- Supervise assigned personnel as required.
- Report for work in emergency situations (hurricanes, floods, etc.) unless otherwise directed by the Senior Director of Facilities.
- After regular University business hours, the engineers are called upon to perform all types of work in almost any area of the campus. The Chief Engineer should project a positive image of the Facilities Department.
- Assist in emergency repairs of all types as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Inspect outlying buildings, mechanical rooms, and systems as assigned for needed repairs, or generate job requests for further investigation.
- Establish, with assistance of the Director of Mechanical Systems, policies and procedures, standards for normal operations and emergency situations. Document and update on an annual basis.
- With Director of Mechanical Systems, develop training program for Plant employees assisting in acquisition of certifications and required licensees for operations.
- Be willing and able to accept and correctly interpret instructions from the supervisor, and to correctly carry out instructions promptly and effectively.
- High School Graduate or G.E.D. or vocational schooling in related fields
- Must possess a City of New Orleans Stationary Engineers Certificate First Class, for both air-conditioning and boilers.
- Five years of experience in maintenance and operation of power plant equipment (chillers, boilers, high temperature hot water generators, pumps, air compressors), at least one year of which must have been in a plant of comparable size; or successful performance of duties as a Loyola Engineer; or equivalent performance elsewhere sufficiently referenced.
- Must be able to perform all duties of a Loyola Engineer.
- Must report for work in emergency situations (hurricanes, floods, etc.) unless otherwise directed by the Senior Director of Facilities.
- Ability to think and act quickly.
- Should be mechanically inclined in order to perform emergency repairs in several trade categories.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Create internal documentation to substantiate plant operations.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills.
- Requires a working knowledge of mechanical systems, energy management, and computerized systems and software.
- Must work under a: minimum of supervision.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license as a condition of employment, and must also be able to successfully pass any driver background information investigation and any driver education courses required by Risk Management.
- Must be willing to work overtime when assigned, and to adjust work schedule to the needs of the department when necessary.
