What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Men’s Basketball Coach position at Loyola University - New Orleans?
Provide coaching expertise and leadership for the men’s intercollegiate basketball program. This is a twelve month position.
Additional Responsibilities:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all practices and contests.
- Implement and maintain standards of performance consistent with the University’s goals of academic and athletic performance.
- Assign any assistant coach(es) specific coaching and administrative responsibilities.
- Organize and implement a recruiting program to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend Loyola University.
- Coordinate facilities scheduling, repair and maintenance of equipment with staff.
- Conduct the program within the rules and regulations of NAIA and the University.
- Attend and participate in department staff meetings.
- Manage the program within the parameters of an approved budget.
- Coordinate with the Director:
- Budget request
- Scheduling of games and practices
- Scheduling of officials
- Purchase and maintenance of equipment
- Appointment of volunteer assistant coach(es)
- Appointment of student director
- Contest administration
- Facilities scheduling, repair and maintenance

- Supervise arena set-up for men’s home basketball games.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President for Student Affairs.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assume the duties of the university Campus Security Authority (CSA), including but not limited to, reporting crimes as defined through the Cleary Act and providing annual reporting statistics.
- Baccalaureate Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the conduct of intercollegiate athletics.
- Knowledge of the NAIA rules to include eligibility is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with college student athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community.
- Considerable administrative and supervisory experience.
- Experience with word processing and personal computers is preferred.
- A philosophy of intercollegiate athletics that places the highest emphasis on the pre-eminence of the academic mission of the institution and the role of athletics as part of the student’s total educational experience for both the student-athlete and the student non-athlete.
- A well-developed personal system of ethical values which will be used as the basis for supervising and developing the intercollegiate program.
- Beliefs basically supportive of the principles of Catholic, Jesuit higher education and the specified goals of the University. Five years successful coaching experience at the high school or college level.
- Expertise in technical aspects of basketball.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license as a condition of employment, and must also be able to successfully pass any driver background information investigation and any driver education courses required by Risk Management.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to raise and lower basketball goals, assist in setting up bleachers, scorer’s tables and player seating for intercollegiate contests.
- Drive and transport athletes if needed.
- Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
